    • Present: Steve Barrup, Jerry Waterman, Richard Gosselin, Denise Daigle, Bob Best, Ernest Choquette, JeffJohanson of Newport Ambulance, John Morin, Barry Sahagian, Tom Pingree, Ike Brunnette, Joseph Creaser of the Chronicle, Scott Jenness
    • Steve called the meeting to order at 5:30 PM
      Jerry made a motion to approve the minutes of 12/5 meeting, seconded by Rick and passed on a voice vote.
      Lindsey Wright was not present.

    Appearances by local citizens/visitors

        • Jeff Johanson was here to discuss and explain the 2020 Newport Ambulance budget. They are asking for a 3% increase this year. Newport Town’s total for 2020 is $48713.00

        • Tom Pingree and John Morin were here to discuss the 2nd amendment, with regard to VT trying to ban certain firearms. Tom will attend future board meetings to keep the board updated on this.

          • Barry was here to discuss the water committee.Tom Pingree and John Morin were here to discuss the 2nd amendment, with regard to VT trying to ban certain firearms. Tom will attend future board meetings to keep the board updated on this. He stated he will have broadcasts on the Internet on this topic.

    Road Commissioner Report

      • Scott Jenness was here to ask the board for their support in opening Route 105 from the City Farm Road to the City limits, which he said is about 2/10 of a mile. He stated that this is a state highway, but the state asked him to get the town’s support regarding this matter. Steve made a motion to give the ATV club their support to open this section of Route 105, seconded by Jerry. Some discussion followed. This motion failed by a voice vote.

    Mr.Derosiers

      • Mr. Derosiers sent Denise an email asking why the board had not gotten back to him with regard to a bill he submitted to the town for road/driveway markers of his that he said were damaged by the town plows. The board reviewed his email and decided that these were in the town right of way. The board will send a letter to him to explain their position.

    Water/Sewer/Solar Panel Report

      • Jerry stated one solar panel does not seem to be working correctly. Steve has already contacted Rich Nichols with regard to this and he is looking into this. Denise updated the board with regard to the water committee meetings and the beginning of starting the process of establishing a rate structure. Water committee meetings will begin after the February billing.

    Conservation Committee

        • Regarding trapping on the town’s land. Denise has talked to Glenn Foster, chair of the committee and they are having a meeting on February 9th to discuss this and bring their recommendation to the select board. The board tabled this discussion until they hear from the committee.
        • The board signed orders and reviewed and approved the journal entries and bank statement. Jerry made a motion to close out two people’s united bank accounts for the Newport Center Cemetery Association, seconded by Rick and passed on a voice vote.
        • Voted to adjourn at 7:25 PM.

SPECIAL SELECTBOARD MEETING JANUARY 8, 2020 AT 8;00AM

      • Present: Steve Barrup, Jerry Waterman, Richard Gosselin, Denise Daigle, Fred and Mike Baraw, Barry Sahagian
      • Steve called the meeting to order at 8:00AM
        Discussed the budget for 2020. The board voted to increase the equipment usage charge by $10.00 if the 2020 road budget passes. Barry stated he would like to see the selectboard pay increased. Next budget meeting scheduled for 8:00AM on January 15, 2020.

Unfinished/new business

      • Unfinished/new business the board signed a letter to send to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Desrosiers on the Buzzell Road that was discussed at the regular board meeting.
